Business

SHINA PETERS VS JIM OVIA

In 1990, Shina Peters built a house with N20 million naira; the same year Jim Ovia started Zenith Bank with the same amount.

Today, you and I don't have a room in Shina's house but I have an account in Jim's bank and probably you do too.

Shina's house was built in Iju Lagos and remains there till date.
Jim's bank started in a corner and now has over 500 branches in Nigeria, and many international branches.

Millions upon millions transact business in Jim's bank daily.
Shina's house is becoming dilapidated...in 2015, he SPENT more money to renovate the house and bought a Nissan Pathfinder with N10 million...additional liability, while in the same 2015, Jim's bank MADE a profit of N105.7 billion.

Zenith bank employs hundreds of thousands, and feeds their families.

This is the difference between Assets and Liability. If you buy a car for N20 million today, in 20 years time, you will be ashamed to drive it. On the other hand, if you invest that same amount in a lucrative business or in an asset, It may be worth billions in 20 years. ( Jim Ovia is now worth $980 million dollars, with the official dollar rate of N320, that means he is worth N313 BILLION NAIRA because of an investment of N20 million).

Spend the little money you have today wisely. Some people driving expensive cars today, are not aware that they are driving their future and the future of their children. Some people carrying iphone7 today, may not be aware that they are carrying their future.

When you are young, don't spend money. Invest it.
Every penny in your hand is like a seed, you can decide to eat it, or sow it. When you sow it, it will bear much more seeds later in future.
Let's be smart.

Kanu

FULL NAME: Nnamdi Kenny Okwu Kanu
DATE OF BIRTH: 1970s
KNOWN TO BE A: Radio director, Activist
MARITAL STATUS : Married
INTRODUCTION
Kanu is a political activist based in the United Kingdom. He is a leading member of separatist organization Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), and the director of London-based radio station Radio Biafra.
He is known to many Nigerians as a not very good citizen, while many Biafran supporters believe he is their hero and leader.
He was arrested in 2015 by the Nigeria DSS which lead to his immediate fame across the country, his arrest caused massive protest in different parts of the country and he was later released few months after.
EARLY LIFE AND BACKGROUND
Kanu was born in Isiama Afara, Abia State, Nigeria. His father is HRM Eze Israel Okwu Kanu (JP) and his mother is Ugoeze Nnenne Kanu. He attended Library Avenue Primary School (now part of Government House, Umuahia) and went to Government College for his secondary education. He later gained admission to the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), where he could not finish due to incessant strikes before he left for London to complete his tertiary education.
CAREER AND LIFE
He is a political activist based in the United Kingdom. He is a leading member of separatist organization Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), and the director of London-based radio station Radio Biafra.
In the early part of 2013, he visited and made the first broadcast of Radio Biafra from Nigeria. Using his laptop, Internet and other devices, he hooked onto London studio and broadcast to the world, he later boasted.
Nnamdi Kanu says delegates at the ongoing National Conference should negotiate for a secession of Biafra or face the wrath of the Igbo people. He said inasmuch as he respects the freedom of people to converge and speak their minds, the right of the people of south-eastern Nigeria to form their own nation should also be respected.
Speaking in an interview with SaharaTV’s Rudolf Okonkwo over the weekend, Nnamdi Kanu posited that the national conference is a waste of time since the same people who created the problems of Nigeria are the ones converging ostensibly to seek a solution. He slurred the delegates representing the Igbo people and threatened them not to return to Igboland if they fail to negotiate a secession from the Nigerian federation.

“If they fail to give us Biafra, Somalia will look like a paradise compared to what will happen to that zoo. It is a promise, it is a pledge and it is also a threat to them” he portended. “If they do not give us Biafra, there will be nothing living in that very zoo they call Nigeria; nothing will survive there, I can assure you” Mr. Kanu added.
He further alleged that the governors in Igboland are lackeys of ‘Hausa-Fulani godfathers’ appointed by them to do their bidding. He was particularly critical of Imo State governor Rochas Okorocha who he accused of singlehandedly islamizing the state. “Every Igbo governor you have has a Hausa-Fulani godfather”, the broadcaster said.
Mr. Kanu also slammed the idea of a peaceful approach to gaining a Biafran independence saying peace never works in the fight for liberation. “I do not believe in peaceful actualization or whatever rubbish it is called. I have never seen where you become free by peaceful means” he suggested. He said statistics available to him indicates that over 98% of Igbos support a Biafran secession because every Igbo has freedom embedded in their DNA.
He complained that the structures for negotiating an independent Biafra does not exist thus leaving them no choice but to resort to the current approach they are embarking on. He therefore lent support for the attack on the Enugu State Government House recently, which was claimed by the Biafra Zionist Movement. “Anybody that can do anything to disrupt the present orthodoxy of governance by a group of very corrupt cabals is welcome” he said.
Biafra was the name given to the secessionist state in the south-eastern part of Nigeria from May 1967 to January 1970, when natives of the region led by Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu opted to break away from the Nigerian federation. After two and a half years of a bitter war which claimed the lives of an estimated 1 million people however, Biafra was reintegrated into the Nigerian federation. The inhabitants of the region are loosely referred to as Igbos, Ibibio-Efiks, Ijaws, Ogojas etc. but anthropologists point to a complex inter-relationship of several other ethnicities all connected by common ancestry.
CONTROVERSIES
On October 18, 2015, it was reported that Mr Kanu had been arrested in Lagos State by Nigeria’s secret police the Department of State Services (DSS). Mr Kanu had told his solicitors that he was, on 14th October, 2015, arrested by the agents of the Federal Government of Nigeria, the State Security Service (SSS) in his hotel room i.e. Golden Tulip Essential Hotel Ikeja, Lagos State. The solicitors in a press briefing said, between 14th and 17th October, 2015 their clients where about were unknown until 18th of October, 2015, when the Press Media broke the news of his arrest and detention by the SSS in Abuja . The news of the arrest of Mr Kanu generated mass protests across parts of Delta State, Enugu State, Rivers State, Cross River State, Abia State, Imo State, Akwa Ibom State and Anambra State.
On October 19, 2015, it was reported that Mr Kanu had been granted bail after a secret arraignment at Magistrate Court,Wuse 11. However, the bail seemed "controversial" and there were claims the DSS announced the bail only "to calm the angry people of Biafra". Although the bail conditions were stringent some of which required the Certificate of Occupancy of a landed property within Abuja municipality, a level 16 officer in the Ministry, Mr Kanu's lawyer said they eventually met the requirements in full. However, “upon the issuance of the Form 36,the court ordeal went to execute the order but came back unsuccessful. He was unable to produce the prisoner. The lawyer, Vincent Obetta, called the continued detention of the activist despite meeting his bail conditions "a clash between judiciary and executive" in a democratic Nigeria. According to Mr Obetta, "I have not seen or heard any place where a court grants bail and the person is not released. Under UN and Africa charter, it is enshrined that once bail is granted, you release the person upon meeting the bail conditions. We are sliding to days of Decree 2 and 4 of 1984. This is pure Dictatorship.”
A Conservative minister said the British consular officials will visit Mr Kanu following enquiry from the activist's constituency MP, Harriet Harman. James Duddridge, Minister for Africa and the Caribbean confirmed that Kanu, had been visited earlier by members of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office but that he did not ask for British consular assistance.
On 5 September 2015, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu was a guest speaker at the World Igbo Congress which was held in Los Angeles, California where he demanded for guns and bullets as the video depicted. [
On 20 October 2015, Vanguard announced that Kanu had been released on bail. However, media sources supporting the objectives of IPOB called the bail "controversial" and claimed the DSS announced the bail only "to calm the angry people of Biafra".
Discharge and Release
On Wednesday, 16 December 2015, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu was discharged by the Magistrate of Chief Magistrate Court, Wuse Zone 2, Abuja, Shuaibu Usman, on all counts of criminal conspiracy and ownership of an unlawful society filed against him by the Federal Government.
The judge, who held that government has dropped the charges against Kanu, said, “The accused person is hereby discharged and the case struck out.”
The federal government through its agent, the Department of State Services (DSS), opted to withdraw the case at the lower court and moved to higher court, which has jurisdiction to handle terrorism related cases.
The Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday, 17 December 2015, granted the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, bail, the News Agency of Nigeria is reporting.
Ruling on his bail application, Justice Adeniyi Ademola, said Mr. Kanu, who is the director of pirate station, Radio Biafra, should be released unconditionally while the case against him continues.
Jubilations in Enugu, Onitsha and other cities were ongoing for the rest of the day

You can make it

Your Name

One of the most important things you will ever own is not your house, your intelligence, your good looks, nor your wealth. Your most valuable asset is your name.
When your name is uttered, what connotation does it bring to the hearers’ ears? Do they first contemplate, “Oh, he has lied in the past, so chances are what he says may not be the truth”?
When you are mentioned, do they giggle and remember all the foolish things you have done, and because of your past, refuse to take anything you do seriously? Does the label “adulterer” flash through their minds when you are mentioned, because of sinful behavior in the past? Are you branded as a cheat forever, because of having been caught in class many years ago? When “hard worker” is mentioned, is your name the first one they think of? Are you always remembered positively, because of your concern and care of others?
What we do or say usually burns an impression in people’s mind of who they think we are, and what they think of us and our character. It is an impression that is difficult to change or erase from their memory. The value others put on our name often dictates how we will be treated by them. It may affect job placement; how we are treated in school, or even who will agree to marry us. Others’ opinions and thoughts when our name is mentioned have a lot to do with who we are, and who we will be.
Most of the references in the Bible using “name” have to do with God’s name. All through the Bible His name has earned others’ respect. His name stands for justice, truthfulness, faithfulness, one who is able to do the “impossible”, and the one to go to in time of need.
“ O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!” Psalms 8:9 Also: Psalms 8:1, Psalms 29:2, Psalms 102:15, Isaiah 9:6
The Bible does have something to say about the values our name can have. Here is some of what the Bible says our name can mean to others:
The Bible says the reputation your name brings is of great value.
“A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.” Proverbs 22:1
Do good and the right thing, and your name will have a positive meaning to many. Do wrong and your name will be forgotten, or it will not be a pleasant memory to those that know you. If your name has a negative connotation, it is usually no one’s fault but your own.
“The memory of the just is blessed: but the name of the wicked shall rot.” Proverbs 10:7
An ointment may be fragrant and smell good to many, but it will not affect as many as will one with a good reputation. The loss of such a wondrous person with a good name will be a great tragedy to those that were touched by his life.
“A good name is better than precious ointment; and the day of death than the day of one's birth.” Ecclesiastes 7:1
God will not honor the reputation of those that did not honor him.
“ Thou hast rebuked the heathen, thou hast destroyed the wicked, thou hast put out their name for ever and ever.” Psalms 9:5
Those that love God will have a good reputation for doing so.
“But if any man love God, the same is known of him.” I Corinthians 8:3
Our lives impact many. What impact did we leave in their minds when we interacted with them? What do others think when they remember us?
To keep a good reputation: “Abstain from all appearance of evil.”
— I Thessalonians 5:22

Peer group pressures

Peer Pressure — the other guy “made” me do it!
Bill Brinkworth
Many claim an outside “force” often compels them to do things they normally would not and know they should not do. Getting their peer’s approval and acceptance is this force for many.
Webster defines “peer” as an “equal; one of the same rank.” For some, it is important to please people; even though they are “equals” and really cannot do anything to physically force them to do what they want done.
This invisible pressure to please one’s peers has always been an over-whelming force in many lives. Here are some reasons, as illustrated by biblical characters, that the desire to have the approval of one’s peers can have such power in one’s life:
They do not want to be different. Peter, Jesus’ disciple, certainly attested to the power of peer pressure. He was the one who planned to be loyal and faithful to Jesus when he said, “… Although all shall be offended, yet will not I” Mark 14:29.
However, before the rooster had crowed in the morning, as Jesus had prophesied, Peter denied, to total strangers, having anything to do with his friend and leader. At the time, it was more important to Peter to fit in at the campfire of strangers, than to be publically identified with God’s only Son.
Too many have been led by similar pressure. They have sold out their testimony and their future, to “fit in” and be like everyone else. The truth of the matter is, such sell-outs for social acceptance are usually only temporary and have to be performed repeatedly for each group it is important to “fit in” with. It is not long until a person has molded himself to so many groups, that he does not really know who he is anymore.
They want to make others happy. Pilate succumbed to peer pressure when the rantings of a mob convinced him to have the Saviour put to death.
“And they cried out again, Crucify him. Then Pilate said unto them, Why, what evil hath he done? And they cried out the more exceedingly, Crucify him. And so Pilate, willing to content the people, released Barabbas unto them, and delivered Jesus, when he had scourged him, to be crucified.” Mark 15:13-15
Pilate allowed mob rule to cloud his judgment. His wrong decision killed God’s only Son. Many of us have also done things to make others happy, only to find that their happiness is only temporary as long as we are doing what they want. Later, it is we that have to live with the side effects from the judgments we have made; many times, for the rest of our lives.
They think they are outnumbered. Instead of “winning them”, they are joining with them. Aaron was swayed by this pressure when the people of God commanded him to make them false idols. He gave in to the pressure the multitudes opposed on him; rather than doing right in God’s eyes.
“And Moses said unto Aaron, What did this people unto thee, that thou hast brought so great a sin upon them … For they said unto me, Make us gods, which shall go before us: ...” Exodus 32:21-23
No matter if “everyone” is doing wrong, it does not make it right for us to do like-wise. We should do what pleases God; if it is popular or not.
They blame others for their wrongdoing. For many, the reason for their not doing the righteous thing is that others “forced” them to do contrary to what God requires. Saul revealed his weakness to peer pressure when he insisted that the people made him disobey God:
“Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, … And Samuel said, What meaneth then this bleating of the sheep in mine ears, and the lowing of the oxen which I hear? And Saul said, They have brought them from the Amalekites: for the people spared the best of the sheep and of the oxen, to sacrifice unto the LORD thy God; and the rest we have utterly destroyed.” I Samuel 15:3-15
Saul was the leader; it was his responsibility to lead the people in obeying God. Unless one is physically forced into doing what is wrong, which rarely is the reason, it is up to us do what God expects us to do. We are the ones that are responsible for our actions.
It has become common to blame the environment, surroundings, people, or circumstances for our actions. Too many have become “victims” and think they are not responsible for their actions. According to God’s Word, however, each is responsible for his own actions. Our excuses for not doing right in God’s eyes and according to His Word do not take away from the fact that wrong is still wrong, The pressures felt or forced from our peers do not give us any permission to disobey what God commands us to do. Each of us must one day give an account for our actions.
“For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.” Romans 14:11-12
“If you do things merely because you think some other fool expects you to do them, and he expects you to do them because he thinks you expect him to expect you to do them, it will end in everybody doing what nobody wants to do, which is in my opinion a silly state of things.” 񐬈

Eve Palava

Genesis 3:1-19 tells the well-known story of Eve and Adam’s disobeying God. Because of this first sin, mankind has been plagued with more sin and its consequences. One bad decision changed all mankind and the earth. Sin has a terrible price tag. No one gets away from sin's wages.
What happened when Eve disobeyed:
She thought God was not right. The fruit did taste good, and they didn’t die — right away.
Adam and Eve had to be clothed. Animals lost their lives so they could be clothed.
Adam and Eve could not have fellowship with God anymore. The one-on-one conversations with the Creator in the garden ceased.
Eve, and all women after her, have had pain in childbirth. Women would not have that experience, if sin had not entered the human race.
The ground was cursed. Now there are weeds and thistles; before there were none.
Work would not have been as hard. There would have been no sweat in hard labor.
Physical death entered into our lives.
Sin entered into mankind
What happened when King David sinned:
King David’s bad decision started with his staying home from battle.
He did not obey God by going to battle. He tarried.
He looked on a bathing woman. His “look” led to adultery between him and Bathsheba.
David conceived a child out of wedlock with her.
The King deceived Uriah, his faithful soldier and the husband of Bathsheba.
David was involved in Uriah’s death.
David and Bathsheba's baby died.
His sons were disobedient and some died early deaths.
Other great men and women sinned and “paid” its terrible consequences.
If Samson had not sinned, he would not have lost his strength, sight, and position of being a judge of Israel.
If the people of Israel had not sinned, they would not have been attacked by serpents, faced starvation, and would have been allowed to see the Promised Land.
If Moses had spoken to the rock, as God commanded him, he would have entered the Promised Land.
If Herod had not boasted, he would not have been eaten by worms.
If Aaron and Miriam had not talked about Moses, Miriam would not have had leprosy.
If Jonah had obeyed God, he would not have ended up in the belly of a whale.
If Haman had not been bitter against Mordecai, he may not have died by hanging.
If Judas had not “given place to the devil”, he would not have been used to kill Jesus.
If the soldiers had gotten saved, they would not have nailed Jesus to the cross.
… and on the list could go from biblical examples of sins’ wages.
No one gets away with sin. There is a price tag. The Bible is a lesson book on this subject. What would you be, if you didn’t make that one mistake?
Some will have a divorce, because they did not wait on God’s choice of a mate.
Some will flunk in school because they would not learn the right way, and cheated their way through school.
Some may end up in jail, because they cheated on their taxes, stole cars, did drugs, etc.
Some may hurt someone physically, because they watched the wrong TV shows and got desensitized about harming others.
Someone may be addicted or killed by drugs, because their desensitization to sin started with a sip of daddy’s beer.
Some may be killed in a car accident, because they disobeyed parents and snuck out at night.
Some girls may have children out of wedlock because they would not listen to their parents about how, who, or when to date.
Some may be crippled in a fight, because they did not listen to parents and stay away from the wrong kids.
Some may not graduate high school, because they were too lazy to study.
Some may go to Hell, and burn forever, because they worried about what their friends would think and never got saved!
All sin has consequences — either here or in eternity. Most already know this, because they have seen what others have reaped by sowing sin in their lives. Why do we sometimes think we can get away with it?
“God hates the sin, but He loves the sinner.”
